My Project
It's March and I just started reading Angie Thomas The Hate U Give. The excitement and involvement my students have express when reading this book is overwhelming. Its the fist book we've read this year that I have a class set of so they have a tangible book to hold. Up to this point in our school year students have only been able to accesses text via pdf files. Even when completing book fair projects many only had digital books. These books will help be build my classroom library.
Additionally my students have engaged in some deeper conversation about perspective.
I shared the proverb with them "If the hunter always tell the story the hunter always wins." We never here the lions side of the story. They understood immediately that for most of their educational journey they have only read book from a very white lens. Providing these books for them help develop their lens.
