The students at our Title 1 school in Northern Utah are eager to learn and want to know more about the world around them. Over 60% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch. Many of my students are ELL students and come from homes where academic support is not always available.
We are a school full of enthusiastic learners and I want to help them develop a love of learning.
In my classroom I want my students to learn the essential skills that they need to be successful students. I want to provide them with the tools and engaging educational experiences that they need to reach their goals.
Reading is an essential skill for academic success. My students are not always interested in what they are asked to read. Providing them with books that cover a variety of topics to read with partners or in small groups will make them more engaged and interested in what they are reading.
This project requests the books Wishtree, Rump, Scared Stiff, and One Crazy Summer.
These book sets will be used daily in book clubs where my students will read and discuss their thinking with each other. These books are leveled so that students of all abilities can participate in our classroom book clubs. Reading together will not only build comprehension skills, it will also build community in our classroom.
