This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students have a genuine love for learning but need the tools and supplies to do so. I have the pleasure of teaching about twenty-five, amazing students who come to school bubbling over with excitement, and are eager to learn. Each one of my students has a unique perspective and they love to share their ideas about the world.
They enjoy learning, but sometime struggle with having the necessary tools to help them be successful.
I am looking to create a better reading environment, and need the hands on tools to do so. My students come into my classroom everyday with an open mind and open hearts, ready to take on the challenges that come in first grade!
My Project
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their personal academic level.They will also be able to choose books that interest them.
The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.
My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will help me keep up with their academic growth.
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students are allowed to work in different areas of the room, but it is difficult due to the lack of resources. Making sure students are comfortable is very important in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and behavior, and I hope that the additional options will help us grow in all aspects even more!
