This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At a Title 1 school, our students face numerous challenges, from financial insecurity to personal and family struggles. Despite these hurdles, they remain committed to their education and are showing incredible growth in their AP Literature class. However, the rigorous nature of the course, paired with the emotionally heavy texts we study, can at times lead to burnout and fatigue.
In particular, many of the books we currently read—such as The Kite Runner and In the Time of the Butterflies can be emotionally taxing; therefore, I would like to introduce an uplifting novel to our curriculum.
The addition of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine will have several key benefits for my students including improved mental health. This novel's focus on loneliness and emotional healing will resonate with students, providing a hopeful narrative about overcoming personal struggles. As winter approaches, a story of resilience and recovery will be a valuable emotional support for students facing their own challenges.
Additionally, after studying heavier texts, an uplifting novel like Eleanor Oliphant will offer students a refreshing emotional and intellectual experience that encourages optimism and perseverance.
