Reading for Pleasure: Books Needed!

My students need books such as the Scientific Thinking Book Set, the Fly Guy Book Set, and the Junie B. Jones Book Set to increase reading for pleasure.

My Students

My students are coming to me from kindergarten where they spent time each day learning their letters, numbers, shapes, colors, and how to be a student. They are motivated to learn how to read on their own and with a partner! My students love being able to work around the room, instead of seated at their desks.

First grade is a crucial year for my students because it is the year when they learn most of the foundational skills for reading!

Over ninety percent of my students qualify for free or reduced price lunch and come from low-income families. My school is a Title I school that tries to support our students by providing as many supplies as we can, but we are finding it difficult with all of the state budget cuts.

My Project

Do you remember learning how to read? You may have a memory of yourself sitting at home, reading your favorite book with a family member. Perhaps, your memory is finding the book with your absolute favorite character in it in your classroom library and reading it with your teacher.

My goal is that my students will find at least one book in our classroom that sparks their love for reading!

I want reading to be what they want to do; not a chore that they dread. With this variety of books I truly believe we can achieve this goal!

The Scientific Thinking Book Set will possibly inspire the boys and girls to become engineers or architects! The Graphic Spin Book Set gives classic fairytales a modern twist. I am very excited that my students will connect the Kevin Henkes Book Set to real-world situations, which will help them to better understand themselves and others. These books are a doorway to their unique reading journeys!
