My students need reading material that they can relate to and understand as they see it on the news as opposed to old (but classic) texts that they can not make connections with.
What makes my students so special is they have the desire and drive to learn. They love being introduced to new concepts as well as being able to apply those concepts in life (discussing how change occurs and applying it by interviewing their grandparents to talk about chang since they were kids). My kids have amazing hearts and display this by sending Christmas cards to a terminally ill 9 year old boy as well as donating over 100 toys to families who are less fortunate
My Project
By receiving these books, my students will be able to read texts that are relatable and pertinent to the daily lives they lead as opposed to reading texts that are 20+ years old with language that my students do not understand as the way we speak in today’s society has changed. My students love to read and like to be engaged and feel as if they are part of the story, and with the books my school currently has, they are not engaged which is resulting in the students losing the desire to read. My students and myself would greatly appreciate anything you are willing to give.
