Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Ten students? How is that possible? The students that will benefit from this request are part of a urban classroom of 25 students where nearly all come from low-income households, but they are a unique group in that they read above grade level - way above! It is an honor and a privilege to be their guided reading group teacher.

They are more capable of reaching the stars then they even realize.

They have the energy and the motivation to take on any challenge they are handed. They are the highlight of my days!

My Project

I would love to have challenging higher leveled books for my above grade level reading group. I believe very strongly that I can make a difference in these kids reading habits and prepare them to read the classics as they grow older.

The books I've selected will challenge them but the content will not overwhelm them.

I need books where the themes are more age appropriate for fifth graders but also honor their ability to read three plus levels above grade level. These students are highly motivated and love to read. Having complex story lines will enable them to stay engaged in their reading.
