This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have not yet discovered books that capture their imaginations because our library has only a few books and most are outdated. Having a culturally relevant library is a critical tool to assist in the education of our inner-city students.

I have wonderful, bright hard-working students.

They reside in South Los Angeles and come from economically disadvantaged families. Our school provides most of the opportunities beyond the city block they live in. My goal is to collect enough books to pack our school library with interesting and culturally relevant literature to stretch their world. My ultimate goal is to earn field trips for my students to give them real-life experiences that will continue to expand their horizons.

My Project

Current, culturally relevant literature written by award winning authors is a vital teaching resource to allow students to practice their reading, fluency and comprehension. Once they are proficient readers, they can travel around the world and beyond in the books they read. My students need 3 book sets and pencil sharpeners.

Books are the windows to the world.

It breaks my heart when my students ask for a books about dinosaurs, China, the stars, and the Western Movement and there aren't any. Please consider helping opening these windows for the students at our school.
