Help me give my students diverse independent reading books and SAT/PSAT test prep workbooks to continue their learning at home. Growing our classroom library with a variety of high-interest books will prepare our students for success.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom population mostly consists of Hispanic and African-American students who participate in the free lunch program. Many students are English language learners and many receive special education services.
My students are inquisitive, creative, and optimistic.
They show up ready to learn and ask meaningful questions. They also enjoy discussing what they have read and writing journal entries.
Attending school is a first step toward success. Although my students may face obstacles, it does not deter them from following their dreams. They aspire to become pediatric registered nurses, entrepreneurs, journalists, veterinarians and more!
My Project
These materials will help our students take the initiative to choose reading materials that matter to them. I have requested some SAT/PSAT test prep workbooks so students can continue their learning at home. Students have busy days with mostly teacher-directed resources. Adding these diverse books will expand our classroom library and provide students options in selecting books of their choice to practice literacy strategies.
Self-selecting books for accountable independent reading or for preparation of college admissions give students choice in their academic journey.
Although students are experiencing in-person learning, the learning must continue at home with independent reading books. Habitually reading and studying at home emphasizes the importance of growing as a reader and preparing for the future.
