My 4th grade students come from very diverse back grounds. There are many single parent homes and the majority do not have computer access available at home. Most of them are considered at-risk and would benefit from having access to the internet and a computer in the classroom every day.
The children I work with are eager learners but they are also (many of them) struggling students.
I would like to expand on that eagerness by giving them the opportunity to learn new things in as many different ways as I can incorporate on a daily basis.
I want to be able to make learning fun for all of my students. Too many of them don't have enough opportunity for fun outside of school. My mission is to bring the "fun" back in to their learning!
My Project
Kids today don't necessarily have an ingrained love for reading. My philosophy is everyone can love reading if they find the right book. I would love to expand the variety and availability of text for my students using the internet. Many of my students do not have a love for reading but they do love to use electronics. I have created a warm and inviting reading space in my classroom. I would like to make it that much more appealing by adding Chromebooks for students to use to access a much wider variety of reading material. This would also enable all of the levels of readers to read or be read to independently. I can also install games and activities geared to increase reading fluency and comprehension for students to use in this space too.
