Do you remember wanting to read but not being able to read yet?
My students are in Kindergarten in the inner-city.
They desperately want to read but are not yet able. Even those who have an idea about reading struggle at finding a book at their level with substance. The only time they really get to read is in school. They do not always have the support at home to read with someone. Exposing them to reading and getting them interested in reading is the beginning of a lifelong love of learning and exploring.
My Project
With a listening center students will be able to listen to books and follow at their level. They will get a chance to be exposed to many titles and more adventures. They will gain insight into reading skills at their own pace and learn what it means to be a reader.
With the chance to explore books students will be able to go to places they never knew existed.
They will be able to foster a love for learning and explore new worlds. It will help reach students at every level and ease the gap between those students who can read and those who can't. And let's face it, who doesn't like to hear a good book read to them every once in a while?
