A child who can read is excited and confident.
Help us succeed now and in the future. By helping a student open a book you inspire a world of opportunity and creativity, a world of possibilities and imagination.
We are considered a low socio-economic Title One School and 100% of the students receive free or reduced lunch.
Over 50% of the student population is English Language Learners and we have a high transiency rate.
That being said, I have an amazing group of young learners. They are eager and enjoy coming to school each and every day. They look forward to learning and experiencing new things. They take pride in their classroom and school.
They are little sponges...absorbing the world around them and their daily experiences. They love to look at books but for many students school is the only opportunity they have to hold a book and practice reading. Many don't have books at home and, don't have people who can read with them, or they have language barriers that prevent them from getting that practice that they so desire.
My Project
We are hoping to get books that are leveled for the different abilities in the classroom: books that are nonfiction and fiction, books that the students can hold and take home and share with their families, books that can help promote literacy for the students. Along with the books we are hoping for colored book bins to place the books in based on levels as well as two bookcases to house our library.
With these materials we can create a classroom full of rich literature that students can read. We can create a reading corner that students can use on a daily basis with grade level partners and cross grade level peers. We can give them opportunities to escape into a world of imagination and inspire them to be lifelong learners. WE can create a love for reading that will stay with them for life.
It is so easy to change a child's life.
A book! For many students a book can open a door to whole new world. Encouraging students to become good readers is essential for success. Helping them to get a foundation and love for reading early on is essential. Allowing them to have a opportunity to pick a book at their level can instill success. This in turn will develop confidence and creativity. It is a snowball effect really and wouldn't you like to be a part of it.
