This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have very big hearts and truly make do with what they have. For some, school is their safe haven from extremely poverty stricken and violent homes. My students are in a very low income community. They are kind and loving but may not get all the things they need. I have more girls than boys in the group I have now, and they are very helpful. I have really gotten to know these students well in the last few months. I have already learned that I have children who come from needy families. Some of my children come from split families where they may or may not see one or both parents. I am very lucky to be able to touch these kiddos lives. They are very creative and love to be able to explore their learning world through my classroom.
Each child in the class has his or her own unique personality that has really brought our community together.
They are very creative and are starting to really enjoy the academic world and are improving every day.
My Project
My students really need items to help them become successful readers. Many of the students that I am teaching are below the required proficient reading level. The more they are exposed to literature and informational texts the more excited they would become about reading. The listening center books assist with this because they are listening to a good reader. This is the foundation to become better readers and writers.
The more children are exposed to writing and reading the more they will become life long readers.
I want them to have access to items in an organized manner. Book bins will organize the materials so that children will be able to easily access what they need to be successful.
Listening is not the only thing that is important to literacy but learning skills that will assist them in reading is important as well. Some of the items that are being requested will help students learn the required skills to be good writers and readers. One of the item in particular is the writing flip book. This will assist students in their writing stories by making sure they include characters, setting, problem and solution. This is extremely important to make sure students all elements in writing.
