Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a sixth grade teacher in Antioch, California. Ours is a Title One school in which approximately 70% of our students receive free or reduced lunches. This year I am fortunate to have a wonderful group of students in a self contained English Language Development class. One of our biggest challenges this year is to improve their reading comprehension abilities. It appears that in their sub group on state tests that is the one area they seem to fall short, so I am trying to create as many engaging reports and activities as I can centered around reading to help them improve their skills. I have started putting together a small classroom library, but I would like to be able to provide my students with a variety of books that will send them on reading adventures to different times and places. I am also hoping to acquire some more books by Latino authors since all but one of my students are of Hispanic background. If you could please consider us for some new books we would be most grateful for them. Thank you for considering our group!
