Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students from Santa Ana are brilliant, curious, excited, eager, and most of all kind. As a new teacher I aim to create an environment where learning is fun and enjoyable for all.
My students are 2nd grade dual language learners.
Many come from low income households, but are always eager to learn and ready for a challenge. All my students are becoming bilateral and bi-cultural citizens as they learn two languages, grow their cultural knowledge, and expand their abilities.
My Project
These materials will be so helpful in our reading block. My students are becoming more confident in their reading and are loving all types of books, especially these Katie Woo series. I would love to offer books they are in love with so they can read in my classroom as well as at home. These books would help them during our independent reading time where students read a book of their choice.
They are loving these books because they are making connections and even seeing themselves represented in these stories while having similar experiences.
I love to see their passion for reading grow as they fall in love with different types of stories. I aim to continue increasing their love for reading in Spanish and in English.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
