Reading Doesn't Stop In Middle School

My students need book series about life in middle school.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Tilley's classroom raised $152

This project is fully funded

I am the librarian at an inner city, high-needs school, grades K-7. Our school is an expeditionary school which emphasizes learning by doing. Although our students are high needs (80% poverty rate), our state reading scores continue to improve every year and last year we had the highest reading scores in our district.

My middle school students love to read. If they see a book in the library that catches their interest, they will immediately pick it up and check it out. My problem is that I don't have enough middle school series that interest the students. They are constantly asking about three particular series: How I Survived Middle School, Goosebumps Horrorland, and The Clique. These books were written for middle school students and what I love most is that their covers scream to be picked up and read.

Once children get "hooked" on a series, I would love to offer enough books to keep them reading. Their excitement is contagious and the students themselves will sell the series to other students, making my job easy. The more our children read, the better their reading scores become. As adults, we know that reading opens all sorts of doors, and is necessary to achieve success.

If I had enough books in a series to offer my students, I can almost guarantee that these children will read with enthusiasm. The more books I have to offer, the better educated our children become. Thank you for considering this proposal.
