Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have desperately missed school and are so happy to be back in order to learn again. At this school, more than 50% of students are Black, Latinx, and/or Native American, and more than 50% come from low-income households. They crave access to new books and exciting or fresh literature.
This project will help foster a love for reading and improve the reading and writing skills of all of my students.
Literature circles will also help students make connections over literature and with stories that reflect their backgrounds. I look forward to seeing the strides they make with access to a diverse classroom library.
My Project
My students need inspiration to spark an interest in reading. Education is changing every single day, and so are the interests of my students. Students in my classroom like to read graphic novels, young adult literature, and updated classics. I encourage independent reading in my classroom and would like to begin lit circles to encourage collaboration and discussion to foster a love of reading.
Students who read these graphic novels and young adult lit find reading fun and begin to read more for enjoyment!
Helping students begin to learn that reading is fun is a perfect way to build better readers. My students will love getting their hands on these books with exciting visuals and fresh topics.
