My Project
After a 13 year break, I chose to get back into the classroom. Last year was my first year back and I am still trying to gather materials that will enhance my teaching and the student's learning.
Teaching reading skills to my first graders is a top priority.
Last year, I rounded up some books half way through the year and started sending them home each night with my students to read. I saw a huge jump with their reading skills! I know having a take home leveled library will help my students become great readers. I plan to use the leveled books for my take home library. I will send home books each night on the level the student needs to increase fluency and accuracy.
I have also included some various materials that will enhance learning in my classroom. I will use the whiteboards for students to show me what they are learning in various subjects. I will use the trifold privacy boards to ensure that each student is learning and answering questions on quizzes and tests on what they individually know. This will help me know which students need additional help and who has mastered a skill.
I teach digraphs and blends in first grade. The digraphs and blends kit will help students practice reading digraphs and blends. I also included a feelings book set with plush toys. I plan to use this all throughout the year to help my first graders learn about feelings.
