Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work with bilingual English/Spanish learners from 8:1:1 and 12:1:1 classrooms in speech therapy. My special needs students have many different communication delays. They really enjoy reading using books in my therapy room , especially series and season themed books. My students benefit from picture books to enhance receptive language skills when they are non-verbal learners. We recently had an “Inside Broadway” performance based on the Food Group books and I would like to get the few titles of the series we are missing.
Through the addition of new books to our library with titles in Spanish and English my students will remain engaged and interested in new stories.
I am constantly browsing and using Teachers Pay Teachers resources to help in my lesson planning with books and visuals for the classroom. It will be useful to use with my students when targeting wh-question comprehension, sequencing, describing, and story elements of the books we receive to have ready resources to spend less time planning and more time learning. Informal assessments to check in with my students' learning are also readily available.
