Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a classroom of 21 bright and fun-loving students. In our classroom, the kids love to work in partners and groups, and to bounce ideas off of each other for a fun and social learning environment.
The class thrives in situations where the students can collaborate together and share in learning experiences.
The students are ethnically diverse and we use that to our advantage to share experiences and ideas.
Our school is in Texas and serves a low income population. My students have gone through some hard things in their life, but they do not let that hold them back from their potential! They love to learn and explore new things.
My Project
These materials will be used in our centers so that we can practice understanding what we read. As a first year teacher, I am always looking for free or inexpensive resources that I can give to my students, but I have found that the quality and effectiveness of those resources has not held up to my students' need.
These reading resources will help my students reach their full potential as readers.
These will help me give students the practice they need according to their ability level and need.
I will place the box of passages in a literacy center according to the skill level we are working on, and give students the opportunity to choose a passage that is interesting to them, so that their independent practice is engaging and effective. I know that a resource like this would take their independent reading to the next level, and help them take responsibility for their own learning.
