My students need interesting selections of 13 fiction and non-fiction titles in 6 or 7 book sets such as "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and "My Life as a Fifth-Grade Comedian" that they can read together and discuss in literature circles.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What was the last book you enjoyed so much that you just had to share it with your friends? My students don't have enough experience talking about what they are reading. They will benefit from literature circles, in which they can read the same book as their friends, and talk about it.
The population of my school is 99% Hispanic, with many parents speaking Spanish only, and many students struggling to learn two languages simultaneously and become bilingual in Spanish and English.
My school's community is made up of low-income, working families. My students are hard workers with a lot of potential for improvement. They enjoy learning and thrive on successful experiences in their education.
My Project
Do you remember the last time you read a great book that you just had to share with your friends? My students read daily, but they don't have enough opportunities to talk about what they are reading with others. These collections of popular fiction and non-fiction books will enable my students to participate in literature circles. They will be able to select a book that interests them, and then read it with together with their friends. Their Book Club discussions will deepen their understanding of the story and improve their overall reading comprehension skills.
My students are good readers, but need to experience their reading on a deeper level.
By helping to fund this project, you are enabling my students to experience how literature can become relevant in their daily lives as they practice higher level thinking and communication skills related to their reading of these books.
