Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is structured for read aloud, independent reading, and shared reading. We also work in small, individualized groups. One of our biggest challenges is not having enough books to read. Children use their imagination while reading and they see a whole new world as they read.
We are located in a low-income area where the parents do not have the money to buy books.
My school is located in an urban school district. My students do not have the resources at home to further their learning. I would like to be able to provide a safe environment where reading can be fun and not scary.
My Project
My students will be able to use these books throughout the day by reading independently, with a partner, or in a small group. Books provide a way for students to make real-life connections. As a teacher, books help students understand and comprehend the story. Students learn to read with books and reading is one of the most important skills in 1st grade.
By receiving this donation, it gives my students a new opportunity to further their learning.
My students will become fluent, accurate readers. My students will have more confidence in themselves because they will not have to shy away from learning because they can not read. Reading happens in all subjects in the classroom. Students need to feel successful. Learning to read is the first step.
