My Project
My students, which include many English Language Learners, have worked so hard to become better readers. The progress they have made just since the beginning of the year is amazing, but I feel that if they had these items, their progress would be even greater. These items will make learning to read even more fun than it already is. My students love working with me every day, but I want them to have more ways to practice the skills they are learning.
The sand trays will give them a tactile and fun way to write in the sand.
Writing letters in the sand can be a great way to train hand muscles and form memories until they master correct letter structure. The shaving cream is another tactile way for the students to practice writing and spelling. I will just spray some on the table in front of each student and they will practice spelling words in the shaving cream. The plus - it cleans my table, too!
The other items will also help them to become better readers, except maybe the candy. I started giving them Airheads after every lesson because I had gotten a lot of them for free. I feel like I need to continue giving them the reward of an Airhead for working so hard.
