Reading Buddies!

Help me give my students reading companions to build reading confidence while providing comfort. Each reading buddy has a unique weight to offer support and simulate a comforting hug while they read.

My Project

My students love reading with our classroom teddy bear. Unfortunately, I only have one, so not everyone has an opportunity to read with it.

This project will give my class more reading companions for students with low reading confidence.

Students who have low reading confidence find it easier to read to a stuffed animal since the animal will not judge them for their reading abilities or choices in stories. This project also has weighted stuffed animals to provide comfort as they sit on students' laps as they read. Weighted stuffed animals simulate giving a hug to the student, so the students can feel secure and safe as they read to their reading buddy.
