Reading Buddies

Help me give my students stuffed animal reading buddies to encourage literacy and fun.

My Project

My students are kind and generous and have the biggest hearts! They also are super creative and can come up with the most exciting ideas. As a group, we would like to inspire students and families to read more. We also agreed that we all love having a special friend to read. My students and I have created a project to “adopt a reading buddy.” During our parent-teacher conferences, students can come and fill out adoption forms and adopt a stuffed animal who will be their reading buddy, which will come complete with an adoption certificate. Teachers will also offer a table of used books in which students can choose a free book with their new reading buddy to encourage reading to their new friends at home.

Stuffed animals and boxes that double as pet carriers will be used to display the new pets.

We'll help students decorate their new pet homes for their reading buddies, too.
