My Project

Students love to come to the library at our school and arrive with a variety of reading backgrounds and experiences. Some are avid readers and some are uncomfortable with the idea of reading a book. At our library we try to provide a variety of experiences to help all readers feel welcome and comfortable on their reading journey.

Reading to an animal (real or stuffed) is a great way for children to get used to hearing their own voice as a reader and it helps to build confidence in reading.

It is often a calming experience for them. And while we can't bring in real animals, we can give students Plush Puppy Dogs that they can read to while in the library.

Our goal is to provide each third grader with a stuffed dog that they can read to at the library. We want each student to be comfortable reading and want to build fluency while reading aloud. Reading to a stuffed animal instead of others takes away the stress of reading and allows our students to take risks as readers.
