My Students

I have a wonderful class this year. My students are curious and energetic. The last two years have been so hard for our students and families. I have some students who have never even attended school before this year! Almost three-quarters of our school's families qualify for the subsidized free meals program. Despite these challenges, our students still love school and work hard!

One of the biggest concerns for second grade, the grade I teach, is getting students to be proficient readers before they leave second grade.

Having a variety of reading materials is critical to getting kids hooked on reading. Many gaps have been created over the last two years and my students range anywhere from non-readers to above grade level readers. I have a classroom library, which my students just love, but it needs more variety. I also provide many reading opportunities throughout the day for my students to read, which they also love! But I can this takes resources to provide for all the different reading levels and interests.

I am so proud of the growth my students have made this year so far! And I would love nothing more than to keep this momentum going!

My Project

Having a wide variety of leveled reading materials will help ensure students continued growth in reading. The differentiated reading materials can help close the learning gaps and be used to catch students up. Also having a wide variety of reading materials can help spark a student's interest in reading.

The reading materials will be used throughout the day during small groups, partner reading, and read-to-self opportunities.

The classroom magazines are a great way to spark interest and connect student's to the world they live in.

Having a wide selection of engaging reading materials geared towards student interest will help greatly with keeping students motivated to learn and read!
