This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My awesome students come from a high-poverty, rural area with high unemployment rates. They come with a willingness to work and learn. My school has a diverse ethnic community with a 100% free lunch program. Our school strives to promote a positive learning environment for all students. My second grade class enjoys being exposed to a variety of learning opportunities and materials in different classroom settings. It is always exciting to see their excitement when I introduce something new into the classroom.
My Project
My second grade students will develop oral reading skills and improve fluency through Reader’s Theater. They will not only be able to follow the story line in each play, but will be able to answer comprehension questions. Reader’s theater also promotes fluency while reinforcing the joy of reading. Students will read parts that can be done in both small groups and whole class settings.
All children need to find the joy in reading through a variety of literary experiences.
Shared reading through reader’s theater is a rich and enjoyable reading experience for all levels of readers in the classroom.
