This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students attend an inner city Title 1 school. Our school has a substantial amount of low income and ESL students. Most of my students face daily struggles with more responsibility than a 10 or 11 year-old should need to experience. However, my students come every morning with smiles on their faces and ready to start the day. They enjoy school and are excited to learn new things. Most of my students start the year already years behind in their academics, but I teach my students that every student can learn and do hard things with practice and hard work.
My students inspire me every day; I try to be a better teacher, so that I can give them the learning experience that they deserve.
For most of my students, being at school is the only time they can truly be a kid. Because of this, I try to create an environment of safety while we learn. I tell them that failure is part of success and I will do all that I can to help them succeed. I like to engage my students with real world lessons and activities that they can relate to.
My Project
In our Title I school, we believe literacy is vital for student success. In my classroom, I want to introduce my students to many different types of text that allows them to be engaged and become excited about reading. I want the resources I bring into my classroom to be related to curriculum standards, while still preparing my students to be lifelong readers.
These magazine resources allows my students to read new and interesting stories that they can take home and read again and again.
This will allow the majority of my students who come from low income homes to have a variety of text to read at home.
