Reading Breeds Readers!

My students need new books to read. It's getting harder to keep books on my shelf, so I need to get more! This is a good, but expensive, problem to have!

My Students

My students come from a small town of about 6,000 people. We're surrounded by the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains and the Maury River. Most of my students love to hunt, fish, and camp. Some live in poverty and have not traveled out of the state before.

Even with the odds stacked against them, the drive, passion, and hard work of my students can't be beat.

While this is definitely a sports-driven community (think Friday Night Lights in rural Virginia), there's a huge community spirit that gathers around the high school at every opportunity. Go Blue!

My Project

My students struggle to find books that they can relate to. With this selection of books, I hope my students can jump into a story that will envelop them and make them want to be life-long readers. My students have a variety of wants and needs so my list has to be eclectic. I'm nearing one thousand books in my classroom library and I can't wait to get more books that I know my students will want to read. A lot of the books on this list are books students have asked me to buy. Let's get them all reading!
