"Reading to achieve, but each at their own pace!" I teach 2nd grade in a public school that's located in an urban community. My school has recently merged an elementary and middle school together. I entered my new building with a lot of enthusiasm and eagerness to work harder than I ever have, because I realize that I will really see most of my students all the way to the 8th grade. I realized more than ever that I am responsible for their educational foundation. I want to give them the best, so that they can be the best.
While unpacking this past September, I realized that I didn't have a lot of leveled books that my students could read independently. I want to create a collection of different levels of books that children love. Reading is one of my passions, and every opportunity that I get, even if it's just for 2 minutes I read aloud to my students. I love going to the public library and borrowing books to read to the kids. I want to share my love of reading with them. I want them to love the precious time that they have to be able to just read at their own pace and leisure without struggling. I just do not have a lot of books that will make independent reading accessible to all children.
Reading to enjoy with a wide variety of books is my goal for my students. This collection will also help future children that will be in my class, and also provide my current students with the tools and desire to read, read, and read!
Your donations will will open up a world of books to readers of all different levels in a way that is personal and meaningful for these young children. This project will help to build confidence in these readers as they grow to love and enjoy the world of reading, as they transition from needing someone to read to them, to being able to read all by their selves.
