My Project
I am a speech-language pathologist working primarily with special education students throughout our school district. Many students I work with use AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) to communicate. These students use speech-generating devices, low technology boards such as PECS (The Picture Exchange Communication System), 3D tactile communication symbols for the blind and visually impaired, eye gaze communication systems, and more.
I am requesting books to help support a literacy program for these students who use AAC to communicate. Each book listed in this project includes core vocabulary (high-frequency words) vital for AAC users to learn and use. These books provide an opportunity to introduce core vocabulary and will be used with high-interest activities to promote vocabulary and language development.
