My Students
All of my students have an IEP or 504, with multiple diagnoses. Most of my students are delayed in math, English, etc. They are in an underprivileged community where most of them are from single-parent homes where the parents may or may not have finished high school. Many of them are living in two-generation apartments and reside in food deserts.
My students respond to love, and support.
They seek validation and are interested in having a better life.
One of my newest students, when asked "
What do they expect to learn this year?" responded " Everything". They understand that they learn differently and the ramification of the pandemic (COVID 19) only made education more difficult for them this year. That same student wants to be a professional football coach in the NFL. I tell people all the time I have the best students in the world, because they want to learn more, they are hard working and they believe they can have more with hard work.
My Project
Reading provides our students with an opportunity to dream big. These materials will help my students learn to enjoy reading and a sense of discovery for the world in which they live.
It will help them in understanding they are members of a global society and despite the challenges they will have something meaningful to the world at large.
Reading is a fundamental skill that will open doors to a phenomenal future. Their ability to participate in a democracy depends on their reading comprehension now and in the future. Help me to make reading FUN.
