My Students

I have a diverse group of fourth grade students and although we are all very different, there is one thing that we do have in common - we love to learn and we work so hard at it! We do not allow our financial backgrounds, even though my students are from a low income area, or our differences to hold us back from achieving our goals.

I work very hard to establish a community of engaged learners in my classroom.

No matter our circumstances at the end of the day we know what is most important and strive hard to make every day a successful one.

My students work so hard and strive to meet their AR goals that they are running out of books to read. We would love your help in funding our project and allowing us the chance to read more and GROW!

My Project

In order for students to grow as readers, students need to read! I am working hard this quarter to get the students engaged in reading. One requirement at our school is AR and I am a firm believer in it. It not only allows the students to grow as readers, but also with their vocabulary and in their writing. As Dr. Seuss once said, "The more you read, the more you know, the more you know, the more you grow!"

In our class, we strive to find which type of books will spark our interest, captivate our minds, and allow us to enter into a whole new world.

We look forward to having these books, where they will find a new home in the hands of my students. Each quarter we have a specific focus and one of the reasons that we can't wait to read these amazing books. The Civil War Era with "Eliza's Freedom Road" and "Freedom Song" will help them make the connection to life in the 1800's. The "Lemonade War" and "Lemonade Crime" is part of our summer reading that some of the students don't have the means of purchasing. "Soft Rain" is read when we talk about the Trail of Tears and the Native American Indians. I can't wait to see conversations and engagement built around these wonderful stories! These books will help students that enjoy reading, help them become creative, and allow them to flourish as readers.
