Do you remember the excitement of learning to read? In kindergarten we use big books to help students learn concepts of print, recognize sight words, and read simple sentences. Big books have a big challenge, they are quite large and don't allow the teacher to have her hands free to teach.
I have 22 eager learners in my kindergarten class.
They love following along with big books during story time and feel so proud when they recognize words or are able to read simple sentences in these big books. These five and six year olds love to be engaged and interact in their learning!
My Project
A learning easel is the perfect solution to the challenge of big books. A learning easel would allow me to have my hands free to show my students how to read left to right, chunk words, and interact with big books. This easel will also be perfect for engaging my students in their learning. In my class we use Thinking Maps to help us organize our thoughts. This easel will allow me to have a place to display our Thinking Maps. In addition, I can use the white board on this easel for shared writing.
My students would be able to interact in their learning by having the opportunity to hold the pen and write words and sentences during group writing. This learning easel has so many more benefits since it is mobile. I would be able to move this easel to different parts of the classroom to help with student learning while myself or a parent volunteer is working with a small group.
The opportunities for this learning easel are endless.
This easel will help my students learn to read from big books, interact in shared writing, and have many other learning opportunities. Please help my students become engaged in their learning with a learning easel!
