Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are incredibly motivated by Manga literature. They read it, they request it, and they devour it! They have been asking for new series for a while now, and it is so inspiring to see how excited they are to read!

Most of the students I work with are still developing their foundational reading skills and English, and not only is Manga literature motivating for them, but it is also more accessible than more dense novels.

They are able to use the graphics and their background knowledge about the series to support their comprehension.

In addition to literature, I am also requesting individual notebooks for my students. These notebooks will allow us to exchange conversations which will serve two purposes. First, conversation notebooks will allow me to build stronger relationships with them, and second, the notebooks will allow them to practice their English language writing skills in a safe space.

There are also some miscellaneous items to add to our room decor and some snacks to make sure students can focus their attention on learning, not hunger! Students deserve a warm, welcoming, and caring environment in which to learn.

The timer will be used for English language development activities in which students talk about the date, time, and weather. Lastly, the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will be used to purchase activities to support students' English language development.
