This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students consist of 22 kindergartners yearning to build and read words. They all want to become readers and writers, and while they know this takes time and practice, it doesn't quelch their enthusiasm to do everything they need to in order to reach their goals.

My students are at an age that their brain is like a sponge just soaking up all they learn in kindergarten.

While distance learning is essential during this pandemic, my students need hands-on, tactile, experiences as well. When they have something present, with them at the moment, they are more likely to not only learn better but practice skills more often.

My Project

My students will be thrilled to use these magnetic whiteboards and magnetic letters to build words at home! We are beginning to build words with the alphabet sounds they've learned and my students are so enthusiastic about moving to the next level in their learning.

Hands-on experiences are essential to the development of young children.

Having the opportunity to give my students the chance to build words with magnetic letters on a magnetic board will bring the learning straight to them.

My students will have online letters to manipulate as well as tactile letters at home to practice their making, reading, and writing of words. The excitement of magnetism is more likely to "attract" them to work with their letters even when they are not in class. This is the part that really excites me as a teacher because they will use what they have learned in class to strengthen and practice those skills at home in a fun, interactive way!
