Creativity, imagination, problem solving, and collaboration are key components to authentic learning in our classroom. I have high expectations for every student. It is my responsibility to provide a variety of learning opportunities to help each child meet or exceed their goals. Our school is a K-2 school with approximately 1,100 children enrolled.
We have a diverse population of ethnic backgrounds, a growing ELL population, a high percentage of students who need accelerated learning opportunities, and students who need reading and math interventions to help them establish a firm foundation for successful learning.
My Project
I am requesting plush sea turtle reading buddies, writing folders, pens, highlighters, desk mat and desk chair for my reading table. My second graders are expected to read at home on a daily basis. I want to provide our class mascot, Maho the Sea Turtle, for each student to adopt and take home. Reading aloud to these sweet plush animals will motivate my students to read each night.
Students will use the pens and highlighters to write about what they read, and they will use the folders to stay organized by storing their reading and writing work.
The desk chair and mat will be used my small group table so I can work comfortably with each reading, writing and math group.
