My students need a Reading Writing Center, whiteboards, markers, and erasers.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. H.'s classroom raised $617
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students live in an extremely low income/high poverty, high crime area but come to school happy to be there. All of them receive free breakfast, lunch, and a snack.
The students with the highest need take weekend food trays home on Friday for the Saturday and Sunday meals.
Although many of the students' lives are difficult, school is their safe haven. This can be seen by their bright, smiling faces revealing their eagerness to learn, and their delight in experiencing everything that is new.
My Project
The Reading Writing Center will provide my students with up close examples of literature as well as writing opportunities.
Since our classroom is in a portable, there is not a lot of wall space.
We have many windows and two old white boards that are peeling and need to be replaced. They are now bulletin boards used to display student work.
This Reading Writing Center will be perfect for my little ones because it is just the right size. In addition to allowing my students to see books being read, students can easily come up and identify/touch a letter, word, or a punctuation mark within the text of the book.
Although my preschool students LOVE being read to, many find it difficult to sit on their bottoms thus not allowing others further back to see. This will allow all students to view the book from wherever they are sitting.
Writing is such an important skill. I believe it is not too early for my preschool children to see its value. I continuously incorporate writing into every aspect of our day. For example, my students and I "share" write a daily Morning Message.
I find this to be a difficult interactive activity due to the fact I have nowhere to hang the chart paper. This center would allow the chart paper to hang on it and be low enough for the students to actively participate in the writing process.
At the moment, I am utilizing a small paper-size whiteboard to model and record information with my students. The whiteboard on the Reading Writing Center would be used in the same manner while making the words easier to see. The smaller whiteboards would be used by students to practice writing the letters/words created and written on the large whiteboard.
