This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are fantastic. They are curious, goofy, and want to do well in school.
They love learning, but school is tough when you have a learning disability.
The C-pens in my project will benefit my students with reading disabilities. They can use these scanning pens to access grade-level curricula. This way, when they read, instead of spending all their energy decoding the words, they can spend their energy comprehending them.
The yoga mats are to help my students cope with anxiety. We've started meditating in class, and it's helped my students manage stress. They look forward to it, and many have started to meditate at home as a way to calm down and let go of the things that are bothering them. Middle school is really tough, and giving them as many tools as I can to work on their mental health is important to me. The mats will help give them a comfortable space to practice the breathing and relaxation skills we are working on.
