This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 2nd grade at a very diverse school. My students have a wide range of learning styles and preferences. They love helping each other discover new facts using online library resources, encouraging each other to reach their personal Accelerated Reading goals each month, and creating group projects. I love the way they give each other praise and encouragement. My students are avid readers and take ownership of their learning and goals. There’s a real sense of community in our classroom.
My Project
My students are currently into reading online books and conducting online research for an upcoming project. As of right now, they’re using desktop computers to do most of their reading and research. My students would love to be able to read or research in various areas throughout our classroom and not be restricted to a desktop computer. It’s difficult to work as a group without the ability to have a common spot for each team member to play a part in actively researching. Imagine finding a really interesting new ebook or magazine to read, but you can’t use one of the available flexible seating options in your room or get comfortable on the carpet to read because you’re restricted to a chair. I think having a Microsoft Surface would increase and enhance my students love for online reading and research. Please help me gift my students the ability to move freely around our environment and still be able to read and research with a Microsoft Surface.
