Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a special education preschool teacher for all learners. My students have a range of abilities and support necessities. My school is a Title I school that serves students who come from low-income families and all qualify for the free or reduced-price lunch program.

My students need to be highly motivated and engaged with materials that are meaningful to them.

Most of my families have very minimal access to resources. Since the beginning of distance learning, I have recorded videos and hosted video meetings demonstrating activities. It became evident that my students needed the materials in front of them to engage with and sustain attention. With the help of donors, I hope to provide these basic necessities to my students and families.

My Project

The materials I am requesting for my students will help them access literature that reflects their diverse abilities and cultural backgrounds. I plan to read the books to them and guide discussions comparing their experiences with the ones from books we read.

It is important for our classroom library to reflect our students with diverse abilities and backgrounds.

Having books that reflect equipment and support that students in our classroom receive will help build their self-esteem. It is also important for them to learn about diversity and acceptance. I will use the diverse abilities dolls to cultivate an interest in hands-on activities and learning through play.

I hope to create a library and play area that reflects my students with diverse needs and backgrounds. My goal is for my students to feel comfortable in their classroom environment. I want to create a safe and welcoming space.
