My football-themed classroom is a place full of energy and excitement where MVP students eagerly enter each day ready to "tackle" their learning tasks. All students at my school receive free breakfast and lunch, and many also receive food from a local church to take home for the weekends. You would never guess the hardships my students face by watching them in our classroom. They are happy, helpful, and hardworking. Learning is truly a team effort in our class, and we consider every single player a vital part of our team.
My Project
By reading The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies and doing a novel study of the book, my students will learn about financial decisions and marketing. I plan have my students read and discuss the novel How to Steal a Dog by Barbara O'Connor during small group reading instruction. In addition to the novels, I am also requesting math games. My students will enjoy these highly engaging games (Check the Fridge, Clumsy Thief, and Clumsy Thief in the Candy Shop) during small group math time. Students will not only improve their reading and math skills, but also gain an understanding of financial literacy in a fun and meaningful way.
