My students need classroom supplies and materials such as the Leveled Books Activity Box, Pattern Blocks Activity Cards, glue sticks, pencils, and construction paper so that we can have hands-on experiences in reading and mathematics.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Vernon's classroom raised $167
This project is fully funded
My Students
I have 13 enthusiastic 4th and 5th grade special education students with learning disabilities. According to the reading and mathematics assessment data, my students are considered to be at the lowest acheivement level. The school is a Public Charter School located in Washington, DC in a poverty stricken area.
Reading proficiency is the most important prediction of high school graduation and career success.
It is said that by the end of the third grade, students should go from learning to read, to reading to learn, to master the more complex subject matter of proceeding grade levels.
My Project
The supplies for this project are things that my students use on a daily basis. It can be expensive for me as a teacher to consistently buy these supplies, so we as a class had the opportunity to earn $100 through a DonorsChoose.org and Google project. When we recieved the funds the students all agreed that we should spend it on supplies and materials that I always have to buy. So, we made a list of all the items we need to help us function better in our classroom.
The materials such as the Leveled Books Activity Box and the Pattern Blocks Activity Cards are materials that will provide my students with the hands-on experiences they need in order to improve their academic acheivements in reading and mathematics.
The pencils, gluesticks and construction paper are materials that the class uses everyday for various S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) hand-on projects.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
