Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"And will you succeed? Yes! You will indeed! 98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed!"-Dr. Seuss In order to succeed throughout their academic career, my students need to have mastered the foundational skills of math and reading. While I am teaching new concepts, I need time to review and reteach old skills.

My students come from low-income homes and are often without supplies.

My students work hard, are motivated, and want to succeed in life. Our school has 98% of students on free or reduced lunch plans and all of our students receive free breakfast every morning.

My Project

While I teach new concepts throughout the day, I am often unable to review old skills that my students have not mastered. Without mastery of foundational skills, they may not understand the new concepts being taught. I pull small groups during each independent practice, but am unable to always review old skills. I would like to incorporate new centers so that while I am with one group, my other students are still at a fun center that works with the skills they need.

This project will help my students to enjoy reading and math through interactive games.

The centers will also allow me to better accommodate my small group interventions; I can use them while I am reteaching and can make review interesting for my students. This way, my students do not feel they are stuck on "baby skills" as they often call them, but feel they are reviewing and learning through fun.
