This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My students attend an inner city public Title I school. They come from homes of various cultures, religions and income levels. They are also full of potential and eager to learn. They are inquisitive, compassionate and creative. I love the way their faces light up when they are feeling proud of their accomplishments.
Many of these students do not have access to technology at home due to the cost of internet or inappropriate devices.
Due to this, educational computer programs and digital books are only available in the classroom
Headphones will assist students in maintaining focus and concentration during independent work time, enhancing student engagement. In a classroom of 25+ students, the noise levels created from the sounds of multiple devices in use and/or student/teacher conversations can be very distracting.
These headphones help to reduce the noise level for each individual student.
These headphones will be used for two purposes. One is for independent differentiated computer programs for intervention and enrichment, through the use of Lexia and I-Ready, which is needed and required in the classroom. Second is the small group literacy listening center which includes attachments that allow four students to listen to one story at one time, that will provide the opportunity for students to enjoy books too challenging to read independently.
