This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am amazed at the diversity and uniqueness of personalities that I have in my class. Each student brings something different and unique. They are eager learners with varying reading abilities and critical, deep thinking skills. My students will enjoy creating paths with the Code and Go mouse which will expand their thinking and problem-solving fundamental skills. To best meet the needs of this diverse group of readers, I want to provide my students with books and book contracts that are tailored to their reading levels. By supporting my project, you are making it possible for each student to have a copy of a book, allowing them to become fluent readers. Gradually, my students will use the books to complete the teacher-created book contracts that focus on word skills, comprehension, acquisition of new vocabulary, phonemic awareness, etc.

The goal of this project is not only to teach the academic reading standards but to build upon my students’ love of reading and confidence by handing each of my students a new storybook at their reading level.

My students want to excel in their reading skills. This project allows them to do it while reading an appropriately leveled book and independently completing the various tasks in the reading contract. This will help students build connections with what they are reading. The book contract activities will help them decode new words, practice phonics skills and learn meanings to understand the text. This will also encourage students to be creative writers and deep thinkers and build a lifetime of learning and reading.
