Reading and Art - It's Elementary!

My students need art books to help support and reinforce what we are learning in class.

My Students

Henri Matisse, Andy Warhol, Mary Cassatt, Jackson Pollock. These artists are all important parts of the art world and I want to showcase these artists to my students in a way that is intelligent and fun. My students LOVE books and I can think of nothing better than to foster their love of reading

My students are ready to learn and read.

Our school has been specifically focused on reading and writing and these books for the art room will help to support our school's efforts. Our school works as a team and we identify areas that need to be focused on.

My Project

These books such as Mouse Paint, When a Line Bends... A Shape Begins, are all directly related to art, so the students will be exposed to many reference resources that currently we do not have in the art room or school library. When students complete their work, they are allowed to go to the art library in the back of the room and read books. I would like there to be a lot more art-specific books back there for them to enjoy reading so they can continue their art experience after the "making art" part has concluded.

Donating to my project will help my students achieve both in art class AND reading.

The more exposure my students have to books and reading the better. Reading creates better writers. Having better writers in the world creates better communication skills and that is something that our students need to be successful and productive members of society.
