This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students range in reading abilities and I would like to use history texts as they choral read in pairs to improve fluency. As fifth grade is the year we learn about American history in Social Studies, I want my students to have engaging, but accessible history books to read during this time.
Using these books during partner reading will encourage students in a deeper understanding and appreciation for our nation’s history, while increasing vocabulary and fluency.
I believe my students will benefit from this cross-curriculum approach.
With a larger class than ever before, I am in need of some extra copies of our culminating class book. "The Boys in the Boat" teaches about history, endurance, perseverance and the importance of teamwork. My students have previously enjoyed this book, and I would love for every student to have one to use.
