My Project
My students are the reason I wake up every day smiling and go to sleep like a child the night before Christmas - I can't wait to get up, go to work, and see them again! I teach in a rural community on the big island of Hawai'i, with students from many different countries, who speak different languages, and have different cultural traditions. I love our classroom. I love our community and 'Ohana. With everything I do, I seek to honor the unique stories and incredible personalities of my students. They deserve the world, and I hope to give them whatever I can offer along the way.
With the impact of COVID-19 on student learning, my current class is starting 2nd grade with very low reading skills and little access to engaging reading materials.
Our school is without a school library, so books must come from my own personal classroom library. I have built a small collection, but I want to add chapter books and picture books with characters I know they love and will have an impact on their love for reading for many years to come. My goal is for my students to fall in love with reading and learning. I believe books are a huge part of learning social and emotional skills, as well as teaching lessons even better than we can as teachers.
